$$F = m \times a$$

$$W = F_g = m \times g$$
$$N = \text{kg} \cdot \frac{m}{s^2}$$
$$W = m \times g = 15 \times 10 = 150 \text{ N}$$

$$F_N - F_g = m \times a$$
$$F_g - F_N = m \times a$$

$$F_d = -K \cdot v = -\frac{1}{2} \cdot \rho \cdot A \cdot C_d \cdot v$$

Net Force in One Dimension
Net force means the sum of forces
Case 1: Forces in the same direction
The net force is the sum of the two forces, in the same direction.
📝 Question:
Two forces of 6 N and 3 N act in the same direction. What is the net force?
$$F_{net} = F_1 + F_2 = 6 + 3 = 9 \text{ N}$$
✅ Net force = 9 N
📌 Direction: Same as the forces
Case 2: Forces in opposite directions
The net force is the difference between the two forces, in the direction of the larger force.
📝 Question:
Two forces of 60 N and 20 N act in opposite directions. What is the net force and its direction?
$$F_{net} = F_1 - F_2 = 60 - 20 = 40 \text{ N}$$
✅ Net force = 40 N
📌 Direction: In the direction of the larger force
📝 Practice Problem:
Two forces act on an object in opposite directions: 20 N east and 35 N west. What is the magnitude and direction of the net force?
$$F_{net} = F_2 - F_1 = 35 - 20 = 15 \text{ N}$$
✅ Net force = 15 N
📌 Direction: West (direction of the larger force)

Acceleration & Newton's Second Law
When a constant force acts on a body, the body begins to move if the force is unbalanced. It moves with increasing speed and has a constant acceleration. As the force increases, so does the acceleration.
Newton's second law states: If a force acts on a body, it produces an acceleration that is directly proportional to the applied force and inversely proportional to the mass of the body.
$$F = m \times a$$
📝 Question:
A force of 20 N acts on a 4 kg mass. What is the acceleration?

Newton's First Law: Inertia
Newton's first law states: an object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion in a straight line, unless acted upon by an external force. This property of objects to resist changes in motion is called inertia.

Weight and Mass
There is a difference between mass and weight: Mass is the amount of matter in a body — it does not change with location. Weight is the force applied to the body by gravity — it changes with the gravitational field.
$$W = F_g = m \times g$$
$$N = \text{kg} \cdot \frac{m}{s^2}$$
📝 Question:
A 15 kg object on Earth (g = 10 m/s²). What is its weight?
$$W = m \times g = 15 \times 10 = 150 \text{ N}$$
✅ Weight = 150 N
Mass and Weight on the Surface of this World
In this simulation, observe the effect of location on weight, while mass stays constant.
Apparent Weight and Elevator Motion
Apparent weight is the non-real weight that appears as a result of a body's accelerated motion — what shows on a scale or spring balance.
If the elevator moves upward:
$$F_N - F_g = m \times a$$
If the elevator moves downward:
$$F_g - F_N = m \times a$$
📝 Question:
A 70 kg man is in an elevator accelerating upward at 3 m/s². What is his apparent weight? (g = 10 m/s²)

Section 8 of 9
Drag Force
When a body is dropped in free fall with air resistance, initially only its weight acts. As speed increases, air resistance appears, opposite to the direction of motion.
$$F_d = -K \cdot v = -\frac{1}{2} \cdot \rho \cdot A \cdot C_d \cdot v$$
Where: 𝜌 = fluid density, A = cross-sectional area, Cd = drag coefficient, v = velocity.
As velocity increases, air resistance increases until it balances the weight, reaching terminal velocity.

Newton's Third Law
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction
Forces in nature come in pairs. The net force of action and reaction cannot be found, because the action acts on one body and the reaction acts on another.
